LaGrange police charge man with armed robbery, attempted rape

Police in LaGrange, Ga. have charged Standford McCord, 39, of LaGrange with attempted rape, armed robbery and aggravated assault.

The crime occurred Wednesday around 4 a.m.

Police responded to a call on Barnard Avenue. The victim, a taxi driver , told police she was transporting a man when he asked her to stop the vehicle. She told police the suspect exited the vehicle then lunged back into the taxi landing on top of her.

She told police the man put a knife to her throat and demanded money and that after taking the cash he attempted to rape her.

After a struggle, the victim escaped.

She then called Troup County 911. The victim was transported to West Georgia Medical Center where she was treated for superficial injuries.

During the course of the investigation, the suspected was identified as McCord and he was arrested.

He is being held without bond at the Troup County jail.
