Rezoning would allow 280-acre development on north side

Columbus Council will hear a second reading today of an ordinance that would rezone 280 acres in north Columbus to allow a planned mixed use development by the Woodruff Company.

The largely undeveloped tract of land at the northwest corner of Veterans Parkway and Williams Road is currently zoned for single family residential and general commercial use. The PMUD classification would allow commercial retail, office, restaurant, multi-family residential and single family residential development.

The project, which is to be called Koonce Place, is planned to be built in three phases over as long as 15 years.

The city’s Planning Advisory Commission and Planning Department have recommended conditional approval of the project.

Council will meet at 5:30 p.m. in its chambers on the plaza level of the Government Center.
