911 call leads police to shotgun-waving man who commits suicide

A 911 call Tuesday afternoon led police to a shotgun-waving man who apparently killed himself, police said.

Officers responded to a Knox Street home around 3 p.m. about a man with outstanding warrants. Upon arrival, they found the suspect holding a sawed-off shotgun to his throat in a home’s backyard. At one point, he pointed the gun at a resident and the officers before running, reports state.

Officers searched the area and heard a gunshot from 2920 Blan St., where they spotted an open storeroom door on the vacant house. They saw the deceased, Michael Sweet, 19, on the storeroom’s floor, police said.

Police said Sweet’s death it appears to be from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
