Some people say footage from a 1928 Charlie Chaplin film premiere features a time traveler using a cell phone. Others are more cynical, citing arguments like the lack of cell phone towers in 1928.
The footage got mainstream attention thanks to a YouTube video posted by Irish filmmaker George Clarke, who spotted something curious while watching bonus material on a Charlie Chaplin DVD.
In his YouTube video, Clarke plays the clip. It focuses on the premiere of "The Circus" at Grauman's Chinese Theatre in 1928.
The person in question? A woman -- possibly a man in drag -- who some viewers believe is holding a cell phone to his/her ear.
