Columbus crime: Man accused of 1st-degree arson makes $30K bond

A man accused of setting fire to his mother’s house has made bond.

James E. Cureton, 53, made his $30,000 bond on Wednesday. He and his wife, Jennifer Cureton, were arrested Oct. 19 and charged with first-degree arson.

Jennifer Cureton was released on her own recognizance Oct. 20.

According to Fire Marshal Thomas Streeter, the couple is accused of setting fire to a Moore Road home. Streeter said investigators determined that the fire was intentionally set and that traces of ignitable liquid were found after materials from the scene were sent to a lab for testing.

No one was home at the time of the fire and no one was injured, Streeter said.
