John Van Doorn is the new chair of the Muscogee County Democratic Party.

Van Doorn is a political science professor at the Troy University Columbus campus.

Van Doorn called for "forward looking" changes" and "unity within the party."

He said the Democratic Party is the "big tent" party and welcomes all comers.
