A man was jailed this morning after he became furious and fired several shots at a man he encountered at his ex-wife’s home in Columbus, police said. The 50-year-old victim was struck by several bullets, but police said his injuries were not considered to be life threatening.
Rodney Bruce Medley, 59, was charged with aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. He was being held in the Muscogee County Jail pending a court hearing Monday morning.
Police said the shooting happened about 2:30 a.m. in the 7200 block of Standing Boy Road in north Columbus. Medley had been having some domestic issues with his ex-wife, police said.
After he realized the man was at the house, Medley “made some kind of call that prompted him to leave, and at that point he assaulted him,” Lt. John McMichael said.
McMichael said the victim was struck once in the left armpit and once near the jaw. Another bullet grazed the top of his head. Shortly after the shooting, the victim managed to flag down police on Bradley Park Drive before he was taken to The Medical Center for treatment.
Medley was still at the residence when police arrived and gave himself up without incident, McMichael said.
Medley is scheduled to appear in Recorder’s Court at 8 a.m. Monday.
