City Manager Isaiah Hugley asked Columbus Council Tuesday for authorization to condemn a small parcel of land on Whittlesey Road for the road widening project there. Hugley said he has not been able to get the land owner to negotiate with the city for the property.
Councilor Glenn Davis said he would like to look into the matter further before going ahead with the condemnation process, so council voted to delay action until its Feb. 22 meeting.
The land, less than a quarter-acre at 1821 Whittlesey Road, would be used as a temporary construction easement. City tax records show that the land belongs to Woodberry Management Ltd. According to the Georgia Secretary of State’s corporation records, H. Edward Paris of Columbus is the registered agent for that partnership.
