A Columbus woman fled a Buena Vista Road home early Saturday after the resident told her he wouldn’t let her leave for any reason if she refused to have sex with him, police said.
Bruce Parkman, 61, faces a charge of false imprisonment on accusations he threatened the 33-year-old woman around 1:25 a.m. and told her she couldn’t leave. Police said that the woman, whose relationship with the man is unclear, feared for her life because the previous night the suspect allegedly choked her in front of her 9-year-old son.
According to reports, the suspect cornered the woman in the kitchen early Saturday and told her she couldn’t leave if she refused him sex. When he left the kitchen, she locked herself in a bathroom, put on some clothes and “discreetly” left the home through a side door. She then called police. When officers arrived, they spoke with the suspect who told them he “was determined to keep her inside this house,” police reports. He denied the accusation that he fought with her the night before, reports state.
Police said that the woman’s child told officers that he saw the suspect repeatedly choke his mother, though he didn’t know to call 911.
Parkman was being held Sunday evening on bonds of $2,500, Muscogee County Jail records state.
