The Feb. 14 death of a 56-year-old man found lying in the road has been ruled accidental, authorities said.
Jerome Menefee, found lying on Enoch Drive between 9 and 10 p.m. Feb. 13, died from a traumatic head injury, said Coroner Bill Thrower.
“It was all due to a fall,” Thrower said. “There was no foul play or anything like that, but he did fall on the back of his head.”
Friends of Menefee learned he’d fallen that Sunday night, and they took him to a Ruben Street home and put him to bed. Around 5:20 a.m., Menefee was having trouble breathing, Lt. John McMichael said.
Menefee had died by the time the ambulance arrived, he added.
Doctors pronounced Menefee dead at 5:57 a.m. Feb. 14, Deputy Coroner Charles Newton said.
