A body found in Crawford County over the weekend could be that of a missing Taylor County man who disappeared in December.
Hunters spotted the shallow grave in the woods about 50 yards off of Fair Play Hill Road around 12:30 p.m. Saturday. It appeared that logs had been placed on the site by someone, and it didn’t look natural to them, said GBI Assistant Special Agent in Charge Craig Rotter.
The race of the deceased is white, though a gender hasn’t yet been established, Rotter said.
The GBI charged Cody Daniel Jackson, 21, in January in connection with the death of 22-year-old James Dudley Byers. Authorities said Jackson left a Fort Valley residence with Byers on Dec. 21 in a pickup, traveling in the direction of Crawford County. The vehicle was found burned a few hours later off Fair Play Hill Road.
An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday.
