A body found in Crawford County over the weekend has been identified as that of a missing Taylor County man who disappeared in December.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation said Wednesday that the body found around 12:30 p.m. Saturday by hunters is James “Trey” Byers, 22. Byers has been missing since Dec. 18.
GBI Assistant Special Agent in Charge Craig Rotter said the cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head.
Authorities said Cody Daniel Jackson, 21, left a Fort Valley residence with Byers in a pickup, traveling in the direction of Crawford County. The vehicle was found burned a few hours later off Fair Play Hill Road.
The GBI charged Jackson in January in connection with Byers’ death.
