Aflac, the supplemental life and health insurer headquartered in Columbus, has landed on Fortune magazine’s 2011 list of the “World’s Most Admired Companies.”
The ranking, now available online, appears in the March 21 print edition of the business publication. Aflac is rated No. 3 in the “Insurance: Life and Health” category, behind Northwestern Mutual and Prudential Financial. In sub-categories, it is No. 1 in its sector in terms of “Innovation,” Fortune said.
The company did not make the Top 50 overall list, however. Apple is at the top. Rounding out the top 10 are Google, Berkshire Hathaway, Southwest Airlines, Procter & Gamble, Coca-Cola, Amazon.com, FedEx, Microsoft and McDonald’s.
The Hay Group, a global management consulting firm, conducted the Fortune survey, which was whittled down from 1,400 companies to the final rankings.
