Lee County sheriff’s officials are investigating the death of a woman found this morning with an apparent gunshot wound to the head in her bathroom.
Tammy Danielle Wade, 28, of Phenix City, was pronounced dead at her home at 165 Lee Road 597, authorities said.
Investigators said Wade was involved in a domestic dispute this morning, and that neighbors reported hearing shouting before gunshots. Authorities responded to the residence about 3:25 a.m.
“We are still working to determine the circumstances centered around how she has been shot,” Capt. Van Jackson said Saturday evening. “We’re going to try to get some scientific testing done.”
Wade’s husband, Edward R. “Bubba” Wade, was charged Saturday with striking his wife during the domestic dispute before the shooting.
“There was some type of argument that had started earlier in the evening that led to the physical assault,” Jackson said. “It is a combination of various things, but we did find some evidence that he was responsible for assaulting her.”
Edward Wade was charged with one count of third-degree assault. He was being held in lieu of $1,000 bond in the Lee County Detention Facility.
Jackson said authorities recovered two 9mm handguns in the bathroom of the residence. He declined to comment on any statements Edward Wade has made to authorities.
Jackson said the couple had two children, but they were not home at the time of the dispute.
