Pine Mountain's FDR State Park Liberty Bell pool won't be open this year
Visitors to Pine Mountain's Franklin D. Roosevelt State Park will not be at liberty to use its bell-shaped Liberty Bell pool this summer.
The Georgia Department of Natural Resources wanted a contractor to run the pool without government support, so it solicited proposals. Only two vendors applied, and neither covered the expense of running the pool, the DNR said.
"Since the DNR is not in a financial position to supplement the operation, the pool will not be opened for 2011," the agency announced today.
Said Becky Kelley, state park director: “We are extremely disappointed to not open this pool for our visitors, but we will ensure that the pool stays in good shape, with the hopes that we’ll be in a better situation next year.”
