Sumter County crime: 100 pot plants found in Americus; 1 arrested

The discovery of about 100 marijuana plants in Americus on Tuesday led to the arrest of a 65-year-old man, authorities said.

Thomas Myers Dobson faces charges of manufacturing marijuana and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office said.

According to reports, several law enforcement agencies found the plants at 162 Lane Store Road in Americus. They then searched the area and found Dobson in some nearby woods allegedly trying to remove a number of suspected pot plants.

A helicopter surveying the scene prevented Dobson from disposing of the plants, and he was arrested at the scene, authorities said.
