Columbus police: Man, woman arrested on pandering, prostitution charges

A Phenix City man charged with pandering early Saturday told police that he’d stopped his car off Cusseta Road to relieve himself.

Police arrested James Alvin Alston, 49, after 28-year-old Tiarra Wofford, who was with Alston at the time, told an officer that Alston had offered her money for sex. Wofford faces a prostitution charge, Columbus police reports state.

Police said an officer on patrol spotted Alston’s 2004 GMC Yukon with its headlights off near Cusseta Road and Cusseta Place around 1:30 a.m. The officer approached the vehicle and saw Alston run to the back of the SUV.

Alston told the officer he was “using the rest room” when asked what he’d been doing. Police then asked Wofford what she was doing. That’s when she said Alston had stopped her and offered $20 for sex, reports state.
