A Eugene, Ore., soldier listed by Army officials as having a Columbus address died Sunday in Afghanistan while supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.
Pfc. Brice M. Scott, 22, was fatally injured in Kandahar province when insurgents attacked a strong point where he was working security, the Department of Defense said.
Scott was assigned to the 4th Squadron, 4th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Heavy Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kan.
Scott, who was on his first deployment, joined the Army in March 2010 as a cavalry scout. He deployed to Afghanistan with 4-4 Cavalry in February.
Scott was a graduate of North Eugene High School, the Register-Guard reports. He entered the Army through a processing station in Atlanta, said Sgt. Nathaniel Smith, with public affairs at Fort Riley.
Scott is survived by his wife and one child.
