Columbus police: Suspect who pointed gun at officer arrested after chase

Columbus police say they've arrested the driver of a Chevy Monte Carlo who pointed a gun at an officer before leading them on a car chase from downtown to Buena Vista Road near I-185 today.

The suspect, whose name investigators would not disclose immediately, finally pulled over east of the interstate after about a 5-minute chase, officers said. Among the charges that will be pending against him are reckless conduct, fleeing from police and aggravated assault on an officer, said patrol Lt. Tony Danford.

Danford said police responding to a call at 13th Street and Fifth Avenue about 12:10 p.m. saw the suspect driving the Chevy. "The officers got behind the car and attempted to stop the car, and the person in the car pointed a gun at one of the officers," Danford said.

No one was injured during the chase and arrest, he said.
