The Skate Shed holds Fifth annual Chili Cook-off
The Skate Shed, 1715 44th St., will hold the Fifth annual Chili Cook-Off on Feb. 11. All events begin at 2 p.m.
On Feb. 11, the Skate Shed is a family-friendly place where you can watch skateboarders, eat chili and check out vendor booths. There is even a 50/50 raffle.
Those wanting to enter their chili must bring it in a crock pot that will be judged on taste, aroma and table decor. The chefs can also enter the People's Choice Award by giving out as many samples as possible.
There is no entry fee for the chili chefs, but you must enter by 5 p.m. Feb. 4. The first 12 chefs to enter the contest will compete.
Winning chili chefs will receive a small prize and most importantly, bragging rights for a year.
Besides the chili cook-off, the skateboard contest has two events. The first is the highest ollie competition. An ollie is jumping over a bar that's raised in increments while riding a skateboard. The highest ollie in Columbus was 33 feet, set in 2008.
The second contest is a game of S.K.A.T.E. This is like H.O.R.S.E. in basketball. There will be an open division and an expert division. The first skater does a trick and if he or she lands it, goes on to the next trick. The people who fail the trick gets an "S." The person who spells out S.K.A.T.E. first loses.
The High Ollie and the S.K.A.T.E. contests are $5 each to enter.
It's free to watch.
Times for the Chili Cook-Off and the skateboard contests are to be determined.
