Opelika police: FBI, police will return to site where human remains found

Agents with the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Opelika police officers will return to a mobile home park where human remains were first found Jan. 28.

Authorities continue to investigate the discovery of skeletal remains found at Brook Haven Trailer Park. A skull found by a resident Jan. 28 led to a police investigation. More remains were found over the following days spread over an area 50 to 75 feet from the first grisly discovery.

At first it was unknown whether the bones were human or animal. Tests later revealed the remains belonged to a child younger than 10. Lee County Coroner Bill Harris said Tuesday that the child died “by homicidal means.”

The race, gender and cause of death of the person are unknown, police said.

“At this time there are no additional leads or information concerning the investigation itself,” said Opelika Police Capt. Bruce DeLong. “This search is a part of the on-going effort to investigate this case and to try and locate any additional remains or evidence that may exist.”
