Columbus police: Suspect tries to start fight at laundromat, leads to unrelated drug arrest

A man Columbus police say tried to start a fight in a laundromat on Wednesday led to police making an unrelated drug arrest.

Pernell Mays, 32, is charged with Violation of the Georgia Controlled Substance Act and possession of drug related objects, police said.

According to reports, a man other than Mays went to L&M Laundry, 1541 Fort Benning Road, about 2:15 p.m. and tried to start fighting with customers. The man then ran across the street and got into a 2007 Buick Rendezvous.

Police say the Buick, which was driven by Mays, was stopped by police. Officers smelled marijuana coming from the car, which led to Mays being charged.
