Presidents' Day: Schools closed in Muscogee, Chattahoochee, Russell counties, Phenix City and Fort Benning

Schools in Muscogee County, Chattahoochee County, Russell County, Fort Benning and Phenix City will be closed Monday for the Presidents' Day holiday.

Muscogee County schools are closed today for winter break and Monday for the holiday and will resume classes on Tuesday, Feb. 21. Phenix City schools are closed Monday for the holiday and Tuesday for a staff development day. Classes will resume on Wednesday, Feb. 22.

Schools on Fort Benning and in Chattahoochee and Russell counties will only close Monday for the holiday and reopen on Tuesday, Feb. 21.

The Chattahoochee Valley Library System will also be closed Monday for staff training and will re-open for normal hours on Tuesday, Feb. 21.

Presidents' Day is celebrated every February in honor of the birthdays of George Washington and Abraham Lincoln, as well as the accomplishments of all U.S. presidents. Washington, the nation's first president, was born on February 22, 1732. Lincoln, America's 16th president, was born on February 12, 1809.
