Update: Columbus police say infant likely died of natural causes

Columbus authorities probing the Sunday death of an infant who was almost 2 months old said today that the baby likely died of natural causes.

They identified the boy as Amar Ricks of Phenix City, who was born this past Dec. 21. An ambulance picked the baby up at 1134 Hunt Ave. in Columbus about 10:15 a.m. and took him to The Medical Center, where a doctor pronounced the child dead at 11:54 a.m., police said.

Detectives and a deputy coroner were summoned to the hospital, where they photographed the baby's body before sending it to Atlanta for an autopsy.

Today police following up on the case said the death does not appear suspicious.
