Columbus police: Man arrested on vehicular homicide accusation

Columbus police arrested a man Wednesday on misdemeanor charges of second-degree vehicular homicide and failure to yield while turning, reports state.

Charles Davis, 61, was booked into the Muscogee County Jail about 1 p.m. He made his $10,150 bond that day, authorities said.

According to police, Janet Mary Davis, 54, died Feb. 15 after a Jeep Cherokee collided with her Honda Accord on Airport Thruway at the Interstate 185 on-ramp, causing her car to flip. The Accord’s driver, Charles Davis, turned left onto the I-185 on-ramp in front of a Jeep Cherokee that was going east on Airport Thruway, police said.

James Dodson, the 32-year-old driving the Jeep, tried to avoid a collision but couldn’t. The Jeep struck the Accord’s front bumper. The Accord then started spinning clockwise, hitting a curb and flipping. When the Accord stopped, it was upside down on the sidewalk, reports state.

Two people were in each vehicle. Everyone was taken to The Medical Center with injuries. Janet Davis died from her injuries, reports indicate.
