Columbus police: Man accused of hitting girlfriend, grabbing her around neck

A Columbus man faces an aggravated assault charge after police say he hit his girlfriend.

Cortez Porter, 25, remained in jail today on $7,500 in bond, records state.

According to police, Porter assaulted on Tuesday his 18-year-old girlfriend inside the Value Place Hotel, 1801 Victory Drive. The woman told police that she couldn’t breathe when Porter grabbed her around her neck.

Police said the woman had bruises and scratches to her arms, neck and chest. She was taken to The Medical Center, where she was listed in fair condition, reports state.
