A 6-year-old spotted a fire in a Wilson Homes bedroom Tuesday afternoon, told her family and helped get everyone to safety, Columbus Fire & EMS officials said.
No one was hurt in the fire that damaged an apartment in the housing project off Veterans Parkway, just south of 35th Street, said Capt. Jeff Victor.
The fire started about 6 p.m. in a second-story bedroom.
“She saw the fire start,” Victor said of the young girl. “She came down and told her mom. She saw it start behind a dresser.”

“We put a pretty quick stop to it,” the captain added. “Once again, the Columbus firefighters did an excellent job.”
No other families were displaced by the fire. The cause of the blaze is under investigation, Victor said.
