Opelika police say a man was almost robbed Thursday afternoon while cutting his grass.
The Chandler Avenue resident was in his backyard about 2:05 p.m. when the suspect approached and asked if he needed help cutting the grass. The resident said he needed no assistance, and that’s when the suspect pulled a handgun and demanded cash, reports state.
The resident called out to a neighbor, and the suspect ran from the backyard, heading north on Wallace Avenue, police said.
The resident was uninjured, police said.

Reports state the suspect is a black man in his early 20s, about 6-foot tall and about 175 pounds. He wore a dark blue shirt and blue pants.
