Columbus police have arrested three men in connection with the Jan. 5 shooting death of Charlie Artis outside his Gunboat Drive barbershop, reports state.
Edward Lee, 19, of 1524 26th St. in Columbus; Dontevious Doleman, 20, of 2822 Colorado St. in Columbus; and Demetrice Scott, 19, of 846 16th Ave. in Phenix City are accused of murder in the death of Artis, 30. In jail since Jan. 19, the men weren’t charged with murder until Friday morning.
The three men also face several other charges in other incidents, including aggravated assault and armed robbery. Scott also faces a rape charge, police said.
Police say Lee was the triggerman in the Jan. 5 robbery and shooting of Artis. Doleman and Scott were with Lee when he robbed Artis and then shot him with a .38-caliber revolver outside of Charlie’s Barber Shop. Artis died from a gunshot wound to his left side.

The death was Columbus’ first homicide of the year.
Police say the three men took part in robberies and burglaries over several weeks in December and January. The first was the Dec. 20 attempted armed robbery and shooting at Hometown Grocery, 1159 27th St.. The suspects shot twice at a 47-year-old man as he exited the store, damaging a 2008 Honda Odyssey.
On Dec. 21, Scott and Doleman broke into a 19th Street apartment and took a TV, prescription drugs and keys to a 2005 Chevrolet Equinox. The Equinox was stolen six days later, reports state.
Artis was shot Jan. 5.
Police say all three men broke into a 14th Avenue home on Jan. 6. They took $6,000 worth of items before leaving.
On Jan. 15, the three armed men broke into a 23rd Street home and confronted a woman. They took $1,000 worth of items and her 2006 Chevrolet Aveo. Scott is accused of raping the woman inside her home, reports state.
All three men were arrested four days later. Police charged them with murder on Friday.
