Alabama State Troopers are searching for a vehicle they say was involved in a fatal hit-and-run early Sunday in Lee County.
John Louis Simmons, 32, of Phenix City died after he was struck while walking on the roadside between 5 and 6 a.m. on U.S. 280, near Lee Road 254 at the 128 mile marker, troopers said.
Trooper Zack Harrelson said Simmons got into an argument with some of the people he was traveling with, so they pulled over and let him out of the car. Harrelson said Simmons was a former soldier who got out of the Army in 2010 and was taking classes at Columbus State University.
Authorities are looking for a 2000-2004 GMC Yukon that might have damage to its right front headlight area.
Anyone with information should contact troopers by dialing *HP on their cell phone or at 334-745-4651.
