Columbus police: Man arrested for obstructing officer during rape investigation

Columbus police arrested a man early Sunday for obstructing an officer during a rape investigation, reports state.

Samuel Alexander, 49, is charged with obstruction of an officer, a misdemeanor. He was arrested outside an east Columbus home about 5:20 a.m. Sunday as officers investigated the report of a rape, police said.

According to police, officers responded to a 30-year-old woman’s home in east Columbus about a rape that happened earlier that night at a Walker Street home. The woman pointed to Alexander, who was in her driveway, indicating officers should speak with him about the assault.

Police say they then tried to speak with Alexander, who refused to answer any questions. Alexander also refused to tell police his name.

Officers then arrested Alexander on the obstruction charge, reports state.
