Columbus police: Man arrested for assaulting woman in front of her 5 children

A Columbus man was arrested early Tuesday on accusations he assaulted a woman in front of her five children, reports state.

Brennan Keon Edwards, 22, faces charges including aggravated assault, kidnapping, obstruction of a 911 call, burglary and five counts of third-degree cruelty to children, police said.

Reports state Edwards entered the woman’s Sixth Avenue home on an unknown date and started arguing with her. At some point, he shoved her into her children’s room and started choking her in front of the kids, ages 2 to 14.

Edwards then dragged the woman through the house and pushed her against the refrigerator, damaging the wall, the electrical outlet and causing the power to fail, police said.

The woman’s 10-year-old girl then tried to call 911. Edwards grabbed the phone from her hand, and the girl then heard Edwards threaten to kill her mother.

Police found Edwards about 3:40 a.m. Tuesday at his First Avenue home. He told police he’d return to the woman’s home with a gun and kill her. Edwards also said police would have to kill him if they wanted to stop him, reports state.
