Columbus police: Woman with unrestrained kids in car cited for reckless conduct

A woman was cited by Columbus police for reckless conduct Tuesday after police spotted two unrestrained children in her car, reports state.

Shemika Jones, 29, was given a court summons after she was stopped at Interstate 185 and Manchester Expressway about 4 p.m., police said.

According to reports, an officer stopped Jones for having an expired registration on her gold Kia Rio. That’s when the officer saw a 3-week-old infant and a 3-year-old girl unrestrained inside the car.

Jones said she’d buckled in the kids, but that they must have undone the restraints themselves, reports state.

“I then told Ms. Jones that it is not possible for a 3 week old baby to do that,” the police report state.

The officer then gave Jones the court summons.
