Columbus police arrested a man and a woman on drug charges Thursday night after their car was stopped for a suspended registration, reports state.
Police say Jarvis K. Whitaker, 30, and Chantrell Comer, 30, both face charges of possession of cocaine with the intent to distribute and possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute.
Whitaker also faces charges of obstruction of an officer and an open container violation. Comer faces additional charges of tampering with evidence and a suspended registration violation, records state.
According to reports, officers stopped a Honda Accord near Cusseta Road and Swann Street about 8:50 p.m. Thursday because of its suspended registration. Whitaker tried to flee the scene but was caught moments later. Both he and Comer were found with $1,780 worth of suspected marijuana and $80 worth of suspected crack cocaine.

Comer was charged with tampering with evidence for trying to hide some of the suspected drugs near a fence. Whitaker got the open container violation for having a Colt 45 with him, reports state.
