Traffic stop leads to discovery of marijuana, loaded gun

A Tuesday afternoon traffic stop led Columbus police to discover marijuana and a loaded firearm, reports state.

Sidney Walker, 48, is charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of marijuana, police said.

According to reports, an officer stopped Walker’s car about 12:15 p.m. Tuesday at Wynnton Road and Lawyers Lane because of a license tag violation. The officer then found Walker had a suspended license, which led to his arrest.

Police say they found a partially smoked marijuana cigarette on Walker when he was searched. The officer also found a small bag of marijuana on the front seat and a loaded .35-caliber Taurus in the glove box.

Walker told police the marijuana and the gun were his, reports state. He was then taken to the Muscogee County Jail.
