Columbus firefighters battled a house fire this morning on Wildwood Avenue.
Columbus Fire & EMS responded to the fire at 1815 Wildwood Ave. about 4:30 a.m. When they arrived, they saw the home that’s been divided into a duplex on fire, said Battalion Chief Glen Bahde.
“The problem is, we’ve got a basement down there,” Bahde said about 5:30 a.m. today. “We’ve got the roof falling in, so we’ve got a lot of debris. We’re just now making entry.”
The home’s single resident was uninjured, Bahde said.

Firefighters initially entered the home when they arrived, but exited when they realized the bulk of the fire was in the roof. They began attacking the fire from a defensive standpoint, Bahde said.
No other structures were damaged in the blaze, he added.
The cause and origin of the fire remain under investigation.
