On Aug. 21, 1941, just after their secret wedding, Lew and Marion Fern of Atlanta came to the Franklin Delano Roosevelt State Park for their honeymoon.
The couple became the first people to swim in the historic Liberty Bell Pool.
"It was col," said Lew Fern, 94, of the water, in a statement. "And it was one of the hottest days of summer."
His wife, Marion, now 93, said she thought the contractor felt sorry for them, and let them swim.
