Bring an appetite. And a wet nap.
Friday night the fifth annual Char-Broil Pig Bowl will kick off with its second annual People's Choice Awards on Bay Avenue in Uptown Columbus.
People are encouraged to come to Bay Avenue on the Chattahoochee to taste a sampling of pulled pork from "some of the best professional barbecue teams in the Southeast," said Matt Hilliker, event manager for Outdoor Events.
It costs $10 and participants will get a list of all the teams and a card to take notes as they sample the meat. Hilliker said people can expect to taste anywhere from 10 to 13 ounces of meat from at least 26 teams. Then they can vote for their favorite.

The barbecue team with the most votes will win $2,000.
During the sampling, there will also be live music from Atlanta-based band Mudcat and a corn hole tournament, which you can sign up for by visiting the Char-Broil Pig Bowl's Facebook page.
Hilliker said the People's Choice Award is more spectator-friendly than the Char-Broil Pig Bowl on Saturday, which is a Kansas City Barbecue Society/Georgia Barbecue Championship sanctioned event.
Approximately 35 teams of barbecuers will spend Saturday cooking up ribs, chicken, brisket and pork butt to be judged by a panel of KCBS-certified judges.
The public can come down and talk to the teams on Saturday and watch them grill, but there won't be open sampling. Hilliker said that the teams are allowed to vend, so some food may be available for purchase.
The winner of the Char-Broil Pig Bowl will win a $7,500 purse and earn points towards participating in competitions in other circuits.
