Columbus High senior wins HCF scholarship

The Historic Columbus Foundation awarded the 19th annual Patricia Jackson Howard Memorial Scholarship to Chaz Cannon, a Columbus High School senior. He was chosen from several other applicants for "his commitment to academics and service to our community."

Cannon is a member of the Thespian Troupe 5390, student council, Teen Advisor, youth choir, Live United Youth Council, Delta Teens, Junior Deacon and Boy Scout Troop 362. He is planning to study political science at Morehouse College.

He was given $1,000.

Two other seniors, Brianna Davison of Hardaway High School and Zachary Jones of Northside High School were finalists. They were given $100 and "Images: A Pictorial History of Columbus" by Clason Kyle.

The Howard Scholarship was established in the memory of Patricia Howard, who was the second executive director of the HCF from 1989-1992.
