A man with outstanding warrants punched a Columbus police officer in the face Monday afternoon before trying to escape, reports state.
Gregory Lockhart, 46, is charged with obstruction of an officer and giving a false name, police said.
According to reports, an officer stopped about 12:30 p.m. Monday to investigate a vacant home at Lawyers Lane and Eighth Street. He found four people, one of them Lockhart, inside the home. Lockhart then gave the officer a false name.
Police say they discovered Lockhart’s identity and learned he had outstanding warrants. Lockhart then ran from police, though one officer lunged and grabbed Lockhart by the shirt, reports state.

Lockhart then began swinging his arms, hitting an officer in the face. He also resisted being put into handcuffs. However, officers took him into custody and Lockhart was booked into the Muscogee County Jail, police said.
