A disabled veteran died this morning in a one-vehicle wreck on U.S. 80, Phenix City police said.
Justin Alan Williams, 29, of Phenix City was driving west about 2:40 a.m. on the highway at Summerville Road. The Army veteran then lost control of his 2001 Chevrolet Camaro for unknown reasons authorities said.
“I’m sure speed is a big issue, but I don’t know if that’s the only cause,” said Phenix City Police Sgt. Jeff Freeman.
The Camaro went at least 50 feet from the highway and into a wood line before crashing. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene, Freeman said.
“The car is totaled,” the sergeant added. “There were no other vehicles involved.”
