Columbus businessman and radio personality Paul Voorhees is scheduled to appear before Columbus Council this evening to ask councilors for “support for efforts to get a prayer and Bible study program on state ballot,” according to council’s agenda.
Voorhees owns Ranger Joe’s, a military and law enforcement supply store on Victory Drive. He and Joe Coley co-host “Ranger Joe’s God and Country Show” from 6-9 a.m. Monday through Friday on radio station WBUE-LPFM, a low-power station broadcasting at 96.1.
In addition to playing religious and patriotic music, Voorhees, Coley, guests and callers discuss religious, social and political topics.
The U.S. Supreme Court ruled state-sponsored prayer in public schools unconstitutional in 1963 and state-sponsored Bible reading in public schools unconstitutional in 1963.
