UPDATE: 3-year-old granddaughter in critical condition after being hit by grandmother's SUV

A 3-year-old Columbus girl is in critical condition at the Medical Center today after being hit in her driveway by her grandmother, who was backing an SUV out onto the street, authorities report.

Jada Colbert, 45, was backing a Chevrolet Blazer out of the driveway at 1206 King’s Mountain Court at about 1:45 p.m. when 3-year-old Taylor S. Johnson was struck, according to Columbus Police Maj. Julius Graham. She was taken by ambulance to the Medical Center.

As of about 4:30, the child was under observation in the Emergency and Trauma Center of the Medical Center, according to Anne Holmes, with the hospital’s community relations department. Her condition is listed as critical.

No charges have been filed, but the incident remains under investigation, Graham said
