June 05, 2012 12:00 AM

Phenix City motorists who travel on South Railroad Street and Stadium Drive will notice delays and road closures over the next two months, said assistant city engineer Jon Gwin.

The stretch of Stadium Drive from South Railroad Street to Opelika Road will be closed Wednesday for about a month.

"We are basically going to have to reconstruct that section of the road," Gwin said. "We will put new curbs, new sidewalks, new base and new pavement."

The city is asking those who travel that section of Stadium Drive to avoid it. Access to Phenix City Intermediate School will not be restricted.

There is also significant work taking place at the South Railroad Street and Stadium Drive intersection. They are improving the intersection by widening it and installing enhanced traffic signals, Gwin said.
