Man arrested in connection with homicide at Lakebottom apartment complex

A man has been arrested in connection with the death of a woman at an apartment complex in the Lakebottom area, investigators said.

Harris County Sheriff Mike Jolley said the man was arrested by sheriff's deputies at around 6:30 p.m. at a residence on April Lane in Cataula, after investigators received information on his whereabouts.

Jolley could not give the name of the man but said that he had been taken into custody by Columbus police.

Police were called to The Village on Cherokee after 2 p.m. where a 38-year-old woman was found dead in an apartment building in the front of the complex located at 3113 Cherokee Avenue.

She was pronounced dead at 2:55 p.m. Coroner Bill Thrower said. The woman had been dead for "an undetermined amount of time," according to the coroner. At around 7:45 p.m., Columbus police chief Ricky Boren confirmed that death was being investigated as a homicide.

The woman's body is being sent to Atlanta for an autopsy, Thrower said.

The woman has three children who are living in other states, police said.

Police are not releasing any more information about the suspect or the woman at this time.

The case remains under investigation.
