A jury on Thursday found Gabrius Immanuel Mitchell, 29, not guilty in the Oct. 11, 2009, death of Darnie Swanson, who was fatally shot at a Bullock County club.
About a month after Swanson was fatally shot, 27-year-old Alfred Brown, who attorneys said would have been a witness for prosecutors, was killed outside a Hurtsboro, Ala. home.
Mitchell's trial began Monday. Attorneys argued their case to jurors Thursday.
Susan James, Mitchell’s defense attorney, told jurors on Thursday that law enforcement bungled the investigation and argued that Brown was the real killer. Ben Reeves, the district attorney in the case, dismissed the suggestion and said all the evidence pointed to Mitchell as the shooter.
