The Columbus Cottage Program had a demolition ceremony this morning.
The wrecking of a home at 1327 Dogwood Avenue was begun and a new house will be built in its place.
Receiving the new home free of charge is Paul L. Jones, a retired maintenance worker for the State Highway Department.
The house that he has lived in for about 50 years was seriously damaged in a fire two years ago.
The Columbus Cottage Program is a partnership between the non-profit NeighborWorks Columbus and the Columbus Consolidated Government.
Jones is the fifth recipient of a home in the program that provides a new home each year for an elderly person in our community who has a home that is currently unsafe and who can't afford to repair or replace it.
