Accused shoplifter pulls out sex toy, freaks out sales clerk

A bizarre preliminary hearing Saturday in Columbus Recorder’s Court left the gallery chuckling and Wesley Goss behind bars.

Goss, 29, was arrested Friday on charges of shoplifting and disorderly conduct while intoxicated.

Columbus police were dispatched at 2:40 a.m. to a Summit gas station, 1500 Veterans Parkway, in reference to a theft. Police found Goss with four bottles of wine hidden inside his pants. After his arrest, police found more items allegedly stolen from the gas station, with a total value of $170.33.

A female clerk testified that Goss had been bothering customers then showed her a sex toy and asked her whether she was aroused.

“That freaked me out,” she said.

Goss denied the allegations and said he purchased the items elsewhere. When asked why he didn’t have the receipts, he wondered aloud why he would keep them.

In case he was charged with shoplifting, Joyner replied. The judge also advised Goss he should have kept his sex toy in his pants.

Joyner ordered Goss held in the Muscogee County Jail on a $500 bond and bound his case over to State Court.
