West Point police: Assailants Tase store owner in robbery attempt

Two men trying to rob a store owner in West Point, Ga., stunned the man with a Taser as he fought back, but then ran away, police reported today.

Investigators said they were called at 9:06 p.m. Thursday to the West Point Food Mart, 900 E. 10th St., where the merchant told them he was closing the store when two men accosted him, forcing him to the ground as he struggled.

During the fight, they used a Taser to stun the man, and then fled, running toward East Ninth Street, police said. The store owner had only minor injuries, officers said.

Both assailants were described as black, one slender, 6 feet tall and wearing a black half-face mask, a skull cap and blue jeans; the other 6 feet tall and wearing dark jeans and a two-tone jacket with white sleeves.

Investigators ask that anyone with information on the assault call them at 706-645-3525 or call Crime Stoppers at 334-756-5200.
