Columbus police report another attack by pit bulls running loose

Once again authorities have logged a report of someone attacked by loose pit bulls in south Columbus, an increasingly common occurrence.

This time a Columbus police officer happened upon the scene at Fort Benning Road and Cusseta Road after hearing "loud barking" there at 1:30 a.m. Saturday. He found a 19-year-old man with dog bites on both legs.

The man told police he was walking on Fort Benning road when two pit bulls attacked him. Officers summoned an ambulance, but the man refused treatment, they said.

Police said they later located the two pit bulls along with two other dogs in a yard on Sheridan Avenue, and though the man who was bit did not want to press charges against the pet owner, Columbus Animal Control officers cited the woman for letting her dogs run loose and "apprehended the dogs."

The pit bulls will be quarantined for 10 days as a precaution against rabies, then returned to the owner if they are not rabid, police said.
